Overview
Hahns Peak Lake offers outdoor recreation at the base of Hahns Peak in the northern region of the state within Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest.
Location/Directions
Hahns Peak Lake is located approximately 30 miles from Steamboat Springs, Colo.
From Steamboat Springs, go 1.2 miles west of town on US Highway 40 to Route County Road 129 north for 28 miles. Take Forest Road 486 west for 2 miles.

Hahns Peak Lake is available for recreation year round, however, certain activities are only available seasonally.
Activities
A variety of activities are available year round at Hahns Peak Lake.
In the winter, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are extremely popular around the Hahns Peak Lake area. Although the route is not marked as a ski trail, it is easy to follow along roads to the Hahns Peak Lake campground. The trail is approximately 11 miles round trip and takes approximately 4-5 hours to complete. Snowmobiling is also popular in the area on nearby roads to Columbine and Big Red Park.
In the summer season , camping and hiking options are available throughout the area. Dumont Lake campground, located at an elevation of 9,500 ft., offers well-separated and panoramic views of a large alpine meadow. The area offers the nearby Rabbit Ears Trail and fishing featuring Rainbow and Brook trout. Sites are $12/day.

Camping seasons generally run May – September. Ice safety should be confirmed with the Hahns Peak Ranger District Office before skiing across the ice.
